Dear Diary readers,
You can definitely be decorating your own home, but why spend the time or money you may ask? Some people enjoy decorating a space as a hobby or pastime, but many people look at this as work. Without some sort of return on the time and expense, it is simply not worth it for them. What many individuals – men and women alike, do not realise, it that a well decorated home offers a return in the form of numerous benefits.
There are even financial benefits if you do it right! If you are trying to sell your house for instance, a well organised and beautifully decorated home can help your realtor get the best possible deal.
Experts have written numerous books on things like feng shui or the link between colours and emotions, they have diagrams about which colours go together and which combinations to avoid. You don’t have to be an expert to realise that the decor in a room, home or building has an impact on every person who walks through the door. There’s no such thing as a bad colour, fabric or wallpaper, just bad applications. For every rule that exists, I’m sure there’s a beautiful room that breaks it. The reality is that there are no rules. But I do think there are guidelines, things that work and make people feel comfortable.
A well-decorated space may even inspire you to socialize more. When your home is beautiful and inviting, you will want to have guests over to enjoy the space with you. That doesn’t mean you need the most stylish furniture or have to spend lots of money on your dining room.
One of the many things that prevent many people from tackling home decorating jobs, is a perceived lack of something; such as time, money, talent or knowledge. You don’t need any of these things, nor do you need to follow the latest trends nor do you need to be an artist. What you do need, is a plan, commitment to the plan, willingness to think out of the box and the support of your family. Oh, and don’t forget, it will take some work too!
I will share many of these plans and easy ways to achieve exactly this – to decorate you home all by yourself. Keep reading my decor diary to find out how you can transform your home on a budget, explore your own style and bring out the best in every room of your house!
Till next time
